Celebratory Launch on BMW’s 50th Anniversary

The 1600‑2 was introduced to celebrate BMW’s 50th anniversary and entered full production in April 1967. Its VIN numbers started at 1500001 and ran through 1533857 by the end of the 1967 model year.

From 1600‑2 to 1602 and Beyond

Originally badged as the 1600‑2, the model was later renamed the 1602. A later version, the 1502 with a 1.6‑litre engine producing 75 hp, was produced from 1975 until the end of the series in 1977.

Two‑Generation Production Span

The first generation of the 02 Series ran from 1968 to 1971, followed by a second generation (model 71) built between 1971 and 1973. The Touring body style, introduced with the early 1600‑2, ended production in 1974.
