Launch Timeline

The Morris version of the 1100 was launched in August 1963, and the Austin version followed shortly after, rolling off the Longbridge production line on 6 September 1963.

ADO16 Project Roots

The car was developed under BMC's "ADO16" code – standing for Austin Design Office Project Id 16 – and was first introduced by the British Motor Corporation as the Morris 1100 before the Austin model appeared.

Final Phase‑out and Engine Upgrade

The 1100 Special (along with the 850 City) was phased out by 1980, and that same year the model received an upgraded A‑Plus engine sourced from the newer Metro.
